‘Learn from history’: Punjab BJP chief advises CM Mann
Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday advised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to learn from history, reminding him that even Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh bowed before the Akal Takht.
Chandigarh, June 17 (IANS) Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday advised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to learn from history, reminding him that even Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh bowed before the Akal Takht.
Dhillon said the arrogance of political power should never outweigh the sanctity of the Guru’s institution.
“The status and authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib are higher than any Chief Minister’s chair, today, tomorrow, and forever,” he stated in a press release.
He recalled that Maharaja Ranjit Singh, under whose leadership Punjab became a powerful empire feared by Afghans and Mughals, had once been summoned by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Jathedar Akali Baba Phula Singh declared him a tankhaiya (guilty of religious misconduct). The Maharaja accepted the punishment without protest and bowed his head in humility.
“Witnessing his extraordinary humility, the sangat forgave him. That was the true identity of Sher-e-Punjab, a leader for whom faith and the Panth stood above every form of political or royal power,” Dhillon said.
In contrast, Dhillon alleged that when Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was declared a “Guru-Dokhi” and “anti-Khalsa Panth” by Akal Takht Sahib, he dismissed the decision as a political conspiracy instead of showing humility.
He further accused Mann of questioning the Jathedar and attempting to dismiss reports of the Central Forensic Laboratories.
Dhillon concluded that history has shown those who challenge Sri Akal Takht Sahib never benefit politically or socially.
“Bhagwant Mann should learn from history,” he added.
