59th Engineers Day Celebrated with Zeal by Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana

Ludhiana, September 16, 2026: 59th Engineers Day was celebrated with full zeal and fervour by the Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana Local Chapter. The function was organized in association with Vigyan Parishad Panchnaad and CIPHET, Ludhiana with active participation from Students Chapter Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana. 
The function started with traditional lighting of lamp. To pay respect to the greatest of Indian Engineers Bharat Ratna Sir M Visveshavrayya, his portrait was garlanded. Er. Balwinder Singh, Chairman, IE(I), Ludhiana local centre welcomed the guests.
Dr. Arvind Dhingra, Ex Chairman, IE (I), Ludhiana gave a bio sketch of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visveshavrayya. 
Dr. Amit Kamra, Faculty, GNDEC delivered an insightful talk on the theme of the day “Engineering Excellence for a Sustainable and Technologically Sovereign India “. He apprised of the various steps government was taking to make India technologically sovereign and sustainable. 
Dr. Rakesh Sharda, President VPP brought out the connection between ancient Indian technology and the modern technology being developed. 
Eminent engineers from the city were honoured with plaques. These included: Dr. Sehijpal Singh, Principal, GNDEC, Ludhiana, Er. Gurkirat Singh, Executive Director, Gulzar Group of Institutions, Khanna, Rajat Mahajan, CEO, Real Chef , Ludhiana, Er. Narender Kumar, DGM, Farmparts, Ludhiana, Er. Gurpreet Singh, GM, Kia Motors, Ludhiana, Er M. Hussain Ali, DGM, Perfect Metalcast, Er. Harjinder Singh, GM, Milkfed, Ludhiana. 
The stalwarts of the institution local centre who have contributed to the building of local centre were honoured by life time achievement award. Er. D P Sharma, Er, Balbir Singh, Er, Mohinder Singh Dhaliwal, Brig(Retd.) Mastinder Singh, Er. Bir Bhan Goyal were honoured with this award. The student volunteers were also recognized for their contribution. A quiz contest was also organized for students in three different tracks: engineering and AI, Viksit Bharat and Engineering marvels. Dr. Sanjeev Chuhan, Treasurer, VPP gave away the cash prizes to the winners. 
In address Dr. Nachiket Kotwalivale, Director, CIPHET exhorted students to adopt solution oriented approach. He advocated sustainable innovative solutions.
Chief guest Dr. Yadwinder Singh Brar, Ex- Vice Chancellor, IKG PTU, Kapurthala said that our country has a rich education heritage which is forming the basis for development of new technologies. He advocated stronger institute industry interface. Dr. Sudip Banerjee, Honorary Secretary, IE(I), Ludhiana delivered the formal vote of thanks.
