Jalandhar, December 7, 2022: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) has introduced Gender Sensitisation Program, a unique value added program to create awareness on gender issues. KMV is the first and only institution  to introduce this program in its curriculum as a value-added program for semester III undergraduate students. This program aims to develop the gender perspective to transform the attitude and behaviour positively toward gender roles and responsibilities. 

Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi who is deeply committed to the upliftment of marginalised women and communities is the main inspiring force behind this unique program. The program consists of three modules. The first module involves a series of lectures on pertinent gender issues by senior and experienced faculty of the college, renowned doctor and lawyer of the city.  The next important module is the open house session, chaired by visionary Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Director, Women Studies Centre. It also provides a platform for students to share their views, thoughts and experiences on gender issues. Another important module is the Workshop on self-defence techniques by the experts so that students can learn to defend themselves in case of any emergency. The very purpose of this workshop is to build confidence among students and make them self reliant and confident. It is pertinent to mention that this program helps to create an environment that promotes gender equality. 

Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that men and women both need to be sensitised toward gender issues so that they may be able to raise their voice against various societal issues like lack of equal opportunities, dowry and physical & psychological violence. She lauded the efforts of Mrs. Amarpreet Khurana, Co-ordinator Women Studies Centre for implementing the program successfully.
