Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated today in the Department of Anthropology to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of Indian forces, who fought with the enemy/intruders to reclaim the occupied Indian territories.

Chandigarh July 25, 2025: Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated today in the Department of Anthropology to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of Indian forces, who fought with the enemy/intruders to reclaim the occupied Indian territories. 
Research scholars and students of department overwhelmingly participated in the event with poster making, singing patriotic songs, displaying documentary and planting tree samplings in memory of the Kargil heroes. 
The event began with a stirring rendition of “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon” by a student, evoking strong patriotic sentiments among the audience. Ms. Niharika delivered a special address, highlighting the bravery and resilience of the Indian armed forces, and encouraging students to reflect on the significance of national service. A documentary produced by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), Indian Army, was screened, offering a powerful visual account of the Kargil War and the heroism of Indian soldiers.
Dr. J.S. Sehrawat, Chairperson of the Department, emphasised that such events instil patriotism and nation pride among the students. He stated, “While we live safely in our homes, our soldiers defend the nation at the borders.” He also referenced the recent Operation Sindoor, acknowledging the bravery of Indian soldiers in confronting immediate threats.
Dr. Sehrawat said that the purpose to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas is to inspire patriotism and national pride among the youth, learnt from the bravery and dedication of Indian soldiers during different military operations.Dr. Sehrawat urged students to be inspired by such devotional sacrifices and serve the nation in every capacity available to them.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and research scholars. A poster-making competition on the theme of valour and sacrifice was held and the winners were felicitated with mementoes and token of respect. A bulletin board filled with handwritten messages for soldiers drew heartfelt attention and admiration. Tree samplings of neem, jamun and other plants were implanted in memory of soldiers who lost their lives in Operation Vijay and Operation Sindoor. 
All faculty members, research scholars, Guest Faculty, staff and students of department were present on the occasion. The event concluded with a tree plantation drive in which all faculty members and students participated, marking a thoughtful and symbolic end to the commemorations.
