International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies observed an International day of Persons with Disabilities today at three schools of Chandigarh, namely Govt. Model High School, Sector 25; Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sector 15; and Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sarangpur, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, December 2, 2023: The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies observed an International day of Persons with Disabilities today at three schools of Chandigarh, namely Govt. Model High School, Sector 25; Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sector 15; and Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sarangpur, Chandigarh.
The theme of the programme was “Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for, with and by children with special needs" The objectives of the program were: to make the awareness about protection of the rights, prevention, to ensure the sustainable development of people with special needs. To achieve the objectives, many events were organised; drawing competition among identified children with special needs and among children having learning difficulty at basic level, poster presentation and essay writing by the students, Rally held by the students of Department of Community Education, school students and with community.
Dr Md. Saifur Rahman, Chairperson of the department said that the people of the community must collaborate with school in their locality to boost children’s ability and attitude towards joyful life. Society should believe in the abilities of children with special needs and role of the society is to understand the persons affected by the disabilities.
Nitin Raj and Md. Taukir Alam were also present on this occasion. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Nitin Raj.
