Chandigarh, Sep 16, 2025: The Department of Sociology, Panjab University, today organised an informative seminar on the use of the EBSCO research platform at the department’s Seminar Hall.
The training session, focused on the effective usage of the Academic Search Ultimate database on the EBSCO host platform. The session witnessed active participation from over 75 postgraduate students, guest faculty, and research scholars.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Vinod Kumar, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, who also concluded the session with closing remarks. Dr. Kumar highlighted the growing importance of digital research tools in enhancing the quality and accessibility of academic work. He also stressed that sessions like these are vital in today’s academic ecosystem where digital literacy is integral to effective research.
The session was led by Ritesh Kumar, a representative from EBSCO Information Services, who provided an in-depth demonstration on utilising the EBSCO platform through Panjab University’s Digital Library. He guided participants on a range of services that can benefit their research process.
A key highlight of the session was the introduction of the National Language Search (NLS) feature, which enables optimised searches in multiple Indian languages, empowering researchers working in diverse linguistic and regional contexts.
To reinforce the sessions learning objectives, an interactive quiz was held towards the end, based on the topics covered. Prizes were awarded to the top five winners, encouraging student engagement and enthusiasm.
