Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Held at the Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh Ground in Kandivali, “Kushti Ka Mahadangal 2026” emerged as a landmark moment for Indian wrestling, marking its grand return to centre stage with pride, passion, and unparalleled energy. The spectacular event reaffirmed that traditional Indian wrestling continues to thrive in the hearts of the people, carrying the same intensity, respect, and cultural significance as ever before.
The prestigious occasion witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries and celebrated personalities. Chief guests included Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale, Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Kandivali East MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar, Borivali MLA Sanjay Upadhyay, MLC Rajhans Singh (Dindoshi Assembly), former MP Gopal Shetty, veteran actor Mukesh Rishi, Bhojpuri singer Sanjay Yaduvanshi, Deepanita Patra, along with many prominent figures from politics, culture, and the entertainment industry.
The grand wrestling showdown was held under the patronage of Narsingh Yadav and Shilpi Yadav, whose vision and commitment have given the event a distinct identity. The unique concept was brought to life by Nasir Hussain and Supratik Sen, transforming a powerful idea into a historic sporting reality.
Kushti Ka Mahadangal 2026 is not merely a one-day event but the beginning of a long-term vision. According to the organisers, a year-long Mahadangal Series is planned, featuring India’s top wrestlers. The initiative aims to preserve the legacy of Indian wrestling while presenting it on a modern platform that resonates with today’s youth.
The historic wrestling festival featured formidable teams such as Maratha Warriors, MP Mahaveers, UP Yoddhas, and Sher-e-Punjab. Organised under the banner of the Narsingh Foundation and Nagrik Suraksha Dal, the event showcased elite wrestlers including Maharashtra Kesari Prithviraj Patil and Punjab Kesari Karandeep Singh, who displayed exceptional skill, strength, and sportsmanship in the akhada.
Praising the success of the event, MLA Sanjay Upadhyay stated, “The Kushti Ka Mahadangal League has been a massive success. Reviving the tradition of wrestling on a proud day like January 26 is truly commendable. I congratulate Narsingh Yadav and his entire team. The enthusiasm of the youth clearly shows that wrestling has genuinely returned to Mumbai.”
Echoing similar sentiments, actor Mukesh Rishi highlighted the importance of such initiatives, saying, “Events like this keep India’s sporting culture alive and help the younger generation stay connected to their roots.”
