Indian Association of Clinical Medicine Organises Its 23rd Annual Conference

Indian Association of Clinical Medicine organising its 23rd Annual Conference at Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, October 12, 2015: Indian Association of Clinical Medicine Organised its 23rd Annual Conference from 9th to 11th October at Ludhiana. The Conference was held in Hotel Aveda under the aegis of Punjab Medical Council and was attended by 650 delegates from all over India.  The Scientific session of the conference was inaugurated by Dr. Abraham G. Thomas, Director, CMC, Ludhiana on 9th October. Speaking on the occassion, Dr. Thomas stressed upon the need of staying updated with the latest interventions in medicine and at same time staying in touch with basics. Clinical examination of the patient has great benefit and is especially important in India where patients may not be able to afford expensive investigations.

Dr. A.K Gupta and Dr. Ashok Shiromani- President and  General Secretary of the Association awarded fellowship to 22 doctors.  The convocation address was delivered by Prof. Y.K Chawla, Director PGIMER, Chandigarh, on 10th October 2015. Addressing the newly inducted fellows Dr. Chawla mentioned about the simple techniques being adopted in PGI to  bring down the cost of treatment and thereby benefit the patients.

Under the able  guidance  of Dr. Gursaran Sidhu and Dr. Sandeep Puri  local organizing committee managed a great show. Other members of the committee included Dr. Mary John and Dr. Dinesh Gupta Professors and Head of Medicine, CMC & DMC respectively, Dr. Vikas Loomba and Dr. H.S Pannu were the Organizing Secretaries, Dr. Tarun  Satija, Dr. Vandana Midha, Dr. Mohanjeet Kaur and Dr. Dinesh Jain were the joint secretaries and the finance secretaries were Dr. Karamvir Goyal, Dr. Rajesh Mahajan and Dr. Ashish Saxena.

According to Dr. Vikas Loomba, the presentations included lectures, debates on controversies in Medicine, Clinico Pathological Conference and Post Graduate quiz. Nearly 125 post graduate students from different medical colleges presented their research work in the form of posters or free paper presentations.

On first day the workshops on  radiology, critical care and cardiology were conducted. Dr. Neeraj Nagpal talked about litigation in medicine. Some of the other topics included economics in medicine, tropical fever, fatty liver, tuberculosis and pneumonia. Dr. Manveen Saluja from Detroitt, USA talked about pearls of Rheumatology and dwelt on various points to be taken care of while managing patients with joint diseases.  Dr. Sandeep Puri, Principal , DMC & Hospital discussed the latest guidelines for management of hypertension . He stressed upon the need of regular monitoring of the blood pressure and the consequences of high blood pressure .

The next conference is planned at Gwalior in October 2016.
