Ludhiana, August 13, 2013: Gobinder Singh, District Session Judge-cum -Chairman, District Legal Service Authority and K.K.Singla, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of District Legal Service Authority jointly today inaugurated a Students' Legal Literacy Club for the students of University Institute of Laws, Punjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana. 

Gobinder Singh explained about the aims and objectives of the Club, importance of legal literacy among students in this new era and the duties of the club members and the activities proposed for the club. He also assured all possible help for the smooth functioning of the Students' Legal Literacy Club.

K.K.Singla, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary of District Legal Service Authority, said that Punjab legal Services  Authority Chandigarh Provided free Legal services to the Poor and weaker  section of the society to protect their Legal rights. A person with an annual income of less than Rs. 1 lakh, Member of Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe, a women or child, a victim of trafficking in human being or beggar, industrial workman are entitled to free Legal services. He said that free Legal services can be provided in all kind of civil & criminal cases, property matter & execution, matrimonial, family dispute , appeals, writs, review, revisions, case pending in the commissions & tribunals and cases relating to violation of fundamental Rights or Public interest etc.

Professor Deepak Kapur, Director, PURC, in his felicitation address stressed the need of legal literacy. He also assured all assistance for the functioning of club and implementation of different programs undertaken for the welfare of general public. Neelam Batra, Coordinator, Students' Legal Literacy Club welcomed the gathering and requested students to actively participate in upcoming club activities along with their other academic and co-curricular activities.

A large number of students participated in the inaugural function.
