Jalandhar/Kapurthala, March 19, 2024: A techno-management based event "Bytebattle" is inaugurated at I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) main campus on March 18, 2024. This techno-management hackathon is an initiative of the students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. It is a four day event & will continue till March 21, 2024. The hackathon will consist of 3 phases: Coding Contest, Web Development Event and Business Plan & Prototype. This event is organized under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor, IKGPTU, Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal. He is the inspiration behind the event. The objective of this program is to provide students a platform to meet professionals, show their talent. The entire event is being managed by the students under the leadership of Dean Academic Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Chawla & other senior faculty members. Registrar Dr. S.K. Misra congratulated the organizers of the event.

The Pre- Session Talks were organized to bring awareness about the event and let the students interact with Subject Matter Experts from fields like Cyber- Security, Full Stack Development & Mobile App Development.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Vikas Chawla, Dean Academics, IKG PTU; Dr. Satvir Singh, Head of the Department, ECE and Faculties of ECE Department – Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Rakesh Goyal. Guest Speakers for the event were Vipin Mehra, CEO O7 Services; Gaurav Sharma, CTO, O7 Services and Amanpreet Kaur, Sr. Mobile App Developer, GDG Jalandhar.

The event kicked off with an energetic session by Gaurav Sharma on “Full Stack Development: An Overview and Future Trends.” Sharma shared his insights on how students can go about learning Front End Development, Back End Development or Full Stack Development as a better option. “While I conduct student interviews, I’ve noticed the lack of practical and technical skills because the students are hugely focused on their university subjects.”, Sharma said. He introduced the students to technologies, frameworks and market demands in each with help of websites developed by O7 Services. Mr. Sharma reaffirmed his point by saying, “Events like these hackathons and coding contests will make students gain practical experience rather than just learning the skills.” This talk was both beneficial and insightful for students for all the semesters.

Vipin Mehra shared his life experiences inspiring students on how no degree can replace the skills that a person possesses. “A degree is a degree whether it is from IIT or PTU. I’ve never had someone reject a student because he had a degree from X or Y institute, it is the skill that matters. Graduation is a necessity, College isn’t”, Mr. Mehra quoted. He cited numerous occurrences from his career and his insights as a Cybersecurity Professional on how he built his skills over time and started O7 Services.

The final talk was delivered by Amanpreet Kaur who is a Sr. Mobile Developer. She gave the students about Mobile App Development, its scope and future in this ever- growing market of mobile phone users. “While we install any application, we mindlessly grant them all permissions to our mobile data and operations. They say your mobile is your best friend but as a developer with all those permissions, I can say your mobile is my best friend”, citing the seriousness of this issue Kaur remotely controlled the phones of 2 people whose mobiles were installed with applications by her. The event ended with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Satvir Singh motivating students to give the best in the upcoming events of Bytebattle.
