Kapurthala/Jalandhar, September 15, 2026: I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) celebrated Engineers’ Day with great enthusiasm on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in collaboration with the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).
The Chief Guest of the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Kumar Bansal, Vice Chancellor of IKGPTU, while the Guest of Honor was Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, Registrar of the University.
Welcoming the dignitaries, faculty members, officers, staff, and students, Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Chauhan, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Coordinator of ISTE, shared a brief history of Engineers’ Day, commemorating the contributions of engineers to nation-building.
On this occasion, the University paid homage to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of India’s greatest engineers, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Engineers’ Day across the country. Sir Visvesvaraya is remembered for his pioneering contributions in irrigation, flood control, and water resource management, including the design of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Karnataka. His vision, discipline, and dedication continue to inspire generations of engineers to serve society with innovation and integrity.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Bansal congratulated all faculty members, students, officers, and staff on this special day. He emphasized the importance of innovation, creativity, and technical excellence in shaping the future of the country.
To mark the occasion, several creative competitions were organized for budding engineers, including CAD Arena, Poster Making, Quiz, E-Sports, Ideathon, and more. These activities provided a platform for students to showcase their talent, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, reflecting the University’s commitment to nurturing young engineers and promoting excellence in technical education.
