Himachal Pradesh Takes Lead in Youth Participation in Politics; Anurag Thakur Unveils ‘Yuva Changemaker’ Roadmap

Dharamshala: In a significant step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of bringing one lakh non-political youth into public life, Himachal Pradesh has launched a major initiative aimed at nurturing future leaders. Hamirpur Member of Parliament Anurag Singh Thakur on Friday presented the roadmap for the ‘Yuva Changemaker’ and ‘Leadership Fellowship Program’ in Dharamshala.
Addressing the media after unveiling the roadmap, MP Anurag Thakur said the objective of the fellowship is not merely to mobilize crowds, but to groom young individuals who can understand the complexities of policy-making, governance, and public service. He said the program aims to prepare a new generation of politically skilled, governance-efficient, and socially sensitive leaders.
Calling the central government’s ‘MY Bharat’ initiative historic, Thakur said the platform is creating unprecedented opportunities for youth participation through service, skill development, and leadership training.
Highlighting his earlier initiatives for youth empowerment in Himachal Pradesh, he said, “To provide maximum opportunities to the youth of the state, programs such as Sansad Khel Mahakumbh, Sansad Bharat Darshan, and ‘Ek Se Shreshtha’ were launched. Now, through this fellowship, we are working towards cleansing politics by bringing in fresh and capable talent.”
The MP informed that online registration for the fellowship will begin on January 25 through a dedicated portal and mobile application. Selected candidates will receive practical exposure to the parliamentary system, policy formulation, and public service, along with leadership opportunities ranging from the panchayat level to the national level.
He further said that the framework for the campaign was finalized recently during a meeting of BJP Himachal Yuva Morcha state office bearers and district presidents held in Delhi. The meeting focused on Prime Minister Modi’s vision and emphasized the need for a structured platform to channel the energy of the youth towards nation-building.
During the program, Anurag Thakur interacted directly with young participants and said that many youth from ordinary families often feel politics is beyond their reach. “We are changing this mindset,” he said, adding, “The country needs servants of society, not rulers.”
He asserted that the Yuva Changemaker and Leadership Fellowship Program will help prepare responsible and committed young leaders capable of making a meaningful contribution to nation-building.
