Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh Governor Urges Young Doctors to Serve Humanity with Compassion, Ethics and Dedication; 950 Students Awarded Degrees at 5th Convocation of UHSR
Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called upon young doctors to imbibe compassion, ethics and service as the guiding principles of their lives.
Rohtak, May 23, 2026: Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called upon young doctors to imbibe compassion, ethics and service as the guiding principles of their lives. He said that medicine is not merely a profession but a noble responsibility towards humanity. Emphasizing the vital role of doctors in society, he stated that they symbolize hope, trust and life, and therefore must discharge their duties with sensitivity, humility and dedication.
The Governor was addressing the 5th Convocation of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences in Rohtak today. The First Lady of Haryana, Mitra Ghosh was also present on the occasion.
During the convocation, degrees were conferred upon 950 students across various disciplines, while 68 meritorious students were awarded gold medals in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements. The Governor also released a souvenir on this occasion.
Congratulating the newly graduated students and their families, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh said that convocation marks not merely the completion of an academic journey, but the beginning of a new chapter of life dedicated to responsibility, service and commitment. Paying tribute to Haryana’s first Chief Minister and renowned freedom fighter, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, he said the university is meaningfully advancing the spirit of “Seva Parmo Dharma” by drawing inspiration from his ideals and vision.
Appreciating the varsity’s achievements in education, research, healthcare services, and public welfare, the Governor said that the institution has carved a distinct identity at the national level in the fields of medical, dental and pharmacy education. He also lauded the university’s public-oriented initiatives, including tele-consultation services and the Health at Your Doorstep programme, stating that these efforts have strengthened access to healthcare services and provided a new direction to public health awareness.
Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh particularly appreciated the organ donation awareness campaign being carried out through SOTTO Haryana under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor. He said that the initiative has brought new hope to numerous families and truly embodies the spirit that there is no greater gift than the gift of life. Commending the inspiring leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Governor said that the appeal made through Mann Ki Baat has significantly enhanced public awareness and participation in the organ donation movement across the country.
Addressing the graduating students, Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh said that during their internship, they must have experienced the immense trust patients place in doctors and the deep sense of satisfaction that comes from relieving suffering and saving lives. He urged the students to combine knowledge with compassion, skills with ethics, and decision-making with a deep sense of service to humanity.
The Governor further stated that the nation continues to require dedicated doctors, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Expressing confidence in the students, he said that many among them would dedicate themselves to social service, while others would make valuable contributions in the fields of medical research, innovation and the modernization of healthcare services.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. H.K. Agarwal said that the convocation is not merely a celebration of academic achievement, but also a commitment to fulfilling one’s responsibility towards society and healthcare. He congratulated the 950 students who were awarded degrees in various disciplines, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and allied health sciences. He also extended congratulations to the 68 meritorious students who received medals for their exceptional academic performance.
VC Dr. Agarwal said that healthcare is not just a profession, but a mission dedicated to the service of humanity. He urged students to work with commitment and compassion for the welfare of poor and underprivileged sections of society. Highlighting the transformative impact of modern technologies, he said that artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and digital health systems are bringing significant changes to the healthcare sector.
Referring to the university’s progress and achievements, he said that the institution, which started in 2008 with 59 affiliated colleges, is now affiliated with 165 colleges across the state. He further informed that the university has so far facilitated six successful organ donations and conducted 38 successful kidney transplants at PGIMS with a 100 percent success rate. He also stated that a provision of Rs 5 crore has been made this year to promote and strengthen research activities at the university.
Registrar Dr. Roop Singh proposed the vote of thanks and expressed his sincere gratitude to all the distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and attendees for making the convocation ceremony a grand success.
