Hamirpur–Sujanpur–Thural–Maranda Road Link Gets In-Principle Nod; ₹200 Crore Project to Boost Connectivity

Dharamsala, March 17, 2026: In a significant development for Himachal Pradesh’s road infrastructure, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has granted in-principle approval for the construction of the Hamirpur–Sujanpur–Thural–Maranda road link under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
The approval comes following a request by Rajya Sabha MP Indu Bala Goswami, who has been actively pursuing the project.
Sharing the details, Goswami described the proposed highway as a “lifeline” for the districts of Hamirpur and Kangra, stating that nearly five lakh people are expected to benefit from improved and more convenient connectivity once the project is completed.
She further informed that, under CRIF provisions, all bridges along the route will be upgraded to double-lane standards, while narrow stretches on the Palampur–Sujanpur–Hamirpur corridor will be widened to ensure smoother traffic flow.
The project is estimated to cost around ₹200 crore.
According to Goswami, the new road link will significantly reduce travel distance between Hamirpur and Palampur and is expected to provide a major boost to economic activities, particularly tourism in the region.
Appreciating her efforts, Gadkari acknowledged Goswami’s persistent follow-up on the project and assured that the Ministry would allocate the necessary funds. He also commended her for consistently advocating infrastructure projects of economic importance to the state over the past six years, including key routes such as Pathankot–Mandi and Chandigarh–Manali, which have seen improved budgetary support.
