Bengaluru, August 5, 2015: Over 100 students of Greenwood High International School today Asha Jeevan, an old age home at Bannerghatta Road which houses senior citizens who are physically ailing and suffering from age- related mental disorders.
The students performed a cultural show for senior citizens in order to entertain them in 3 different languages, English, Hindi and Kannada. They also spent quality time with old age people, who shared their likes and dislikes and also made them laugh at their light-hearted jokes. The cultural program was followed by the distribution of snacks by the kids.
Senior citizens also surprised the students with their talents. They hummed few songs and danced along with the kids. The senior citizens were elated and blessed the students and wished that they become good human beings and make their parents proud one day.
We are thankful to the children and school authority to take such a decision and show the kids the other side of the society, said Sujata Bhat, Founder Trustee, Asha Jeevan.
Kids give you the most genuine and selfless love, we are very lucky to receive it today from the students of Greenwood High, said N.K Murthy, a resident of Asha Jeevan.
There were many speeches from the students who spoke about the significance of grandparents in their lives. I am glad to see the love they share with them. It’s sweet to see the initiatives they have taken today to entertain us, may god bless them all, said Mrs Nalini Shivakumar, another resident of Asha Jeevan.
It was a once in a lifetime experience. We had a lovely time because of the very energetic audience. I think we should do this more often. Spending time with grandparents is the best thing ever. They have silver in their hair and gold in their hearts, said Natasha Srivastava, student of Greenwood High.
I would never forget this day, i never knew people you meet for the first can give you so much of love. It felt so positive. I will make sure i come here atleast once a month, said Darshan G Redddy, another student at Greenwood High.
We always like to teach our students the importance of compassion. This visit to an old-age home was one such attempt by us. The objective of this visit was to sensitize students to the predicaments and problems of aged people & become aware of the joy of serving and being with the aged. We are sure that such initiatives will help our students to become good citizens. It is wonderful to know that our presence could bring a smile to their faces, said Ms. Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High.
