Jalandhar: The Eighth Annual Inter Cambridge Sports Meet which was held at Cambridge International School, Jalandhar from April 19 to 22 came to an end amidst great mirth and verve. Sports and athletics have always been an integral part of the Cambridge learning system for years. The four-day event was another benchmark in the history of remarkable events that have taken place in Cambridge Schools and which was instrumental in generating an atmosphere of great fervor and enthusiasm. An array of sports activities in this fest filled one and all with the spirit of sportsmanship.It kindled the spark of zeal and zest among the students to participate not just to win but to do their best.
Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest was the vivacious personality Dr.Dianna Milliard, Ex-Superintendent of Schools, Director, School Improvement Branch , Alberta, Energy and Utilities Board, Alberta, Canada. A formal welcome was extended to the Chief Guest by Principal Kiranjoth Dhillon and Director, Secretariat LWES Ms Geeta Mahajan. In the welcome address , Ms Geeta Mahajan threw light on the importance of sports in general and congratulated the sports departments of all the schools for participating with great enthusiasm . Various performances were presented which added to the gaiety of the moment. The energetic Bhangra performance by Cambridge students entertained one and all. There was a special Yoga performance by the students of Lovely University which mesmerized the spectators.The speech delivered by the worthy Chief Guest was extremely motivating as she congratulated the Sports department and the participants for their untiring efforts to make the competition successful .She appreciated the efforts of the management for organizing such events for the overall development of the students. Various events were a part of this meet. The students showcased their multifaceted talents in this Mega Sports event which culminated with the award ceremony where the students were honoured with trophies and awards by the dignitaries. The Flag Lowering ceremony by the Chief Guest was followed by the Vote of thanks by the Headmistresses Ms. Harleen Rehal and Ms.Priyanka Grover. Finally, the entire school stood together, proud and gay to sing the School song followed by the National Anthem.
The final day filled everyone with pleasure and felicity when the Overall Trophy (Boys) was won by Cambridge International School ,Jalandhar. The Overall Trophy (Girls) was won by Cambridge International School For Girls, Jalandhar .
A feather to the cap was the March Past Trophy won by Cambridge International school , Jalandhar.
Cambridge International School, Kullu was declared as the most disciplined school.
Stiff competition was witnessed in all the events, spectators cheered the participants and the resonance of their applause motivated the participants greatly.
In Athletics (Boys and Girls) (U-11) the various events which were conducted were 50 Mts race, 100 Mts race, Long jump, 4 x 100 Relay whereas in U- 14 (Boys and Girls) , the various events were 100 Mts race, 400 Mts race, Long jump, Shot Put, 4 x 100 Relay .In U-17 and U- 19,(Boys and Girls) 100 Mts race, 200 Mts race,400 Mts race, Long jump, Shot Put,4 x 100 Relay were conducted. The other games which were a part of this mega event were Table Tennis , BasketBall , Skating ,Volleyball, Yoga ,Chess ,Tennis and Kho Kho .These games drew huge participation from around 1100 students in all categories.
Various events were a part of this meet and all the participants of the Inter-Cambridge Sports Meet made their schools proud by bagging various positions in different events.
The result of the events were awaited by one and all with bated breaths.
There was a feeling of happiness and cheer as the 1st position in Athletics (Boys) was bagged by Cambridge International School, Jalandhar, Cambridge International School, Nawanshahr stood second whereas Cambridge International School, Kapurthala stood third. In the same event (Girls category) Cambridge International School For Girls, Jalandhar bagged the First position, Cambridge International School , Jalandharstood second whereas Cambridge International School, Nawanshahr stood third.
In Yoga (Girls) category the first position was bagged by Cambridge International School For Girls, Jalandhar and the second position was bagged by Cambridge International School, Jalandhar . In Boys category ,Cambridge International School, Jalandhar was declared as the Overall winner and Cambridge International School Phagwara bagged the second position.
The Basket Ball Team (Girls) Cambridge International School ,Jalandhar stood First, Cambridge International School, Phagwara stood Second. In (Boys) Cambridge International School, Jalandhar was declared as the overall winner and Cambridge International School, Phagwara was declared as the runner up .
The Volleyball Team(Boys) the Overall Winner was Cambridge International School , Jalandhar whereas Cambridge International School, Nawanshahr was declared as the runner up. The Volleyball Team(Girls ) the Overall Winner was Cambridge International School for Girls whereas Cambridge International School, Jalandhar was declared as the runner up.
In Skating (Boys) Cambridge International School, Jalandhar bagged the First position whereas Cambridge International School, Phagwara stood second. In (Girls category ), Cambridge International School, Jalandhar bagged the First position whereas Cambridge International School For Girls, Jalandhar stood second.
In Table Tennis(Boys)Cambridge International School, Jalandhar bagged the Overall position, Cambridge International School, Nawanshahr stood second .In Girls in the same event, , Cambridge International School For Girls, Jalandhar bagged the First position and Cambridge International School, Kapurthala bagged the second position.
In Tennis (Boys) the First position was bagged by Cambridge International School, Jalandhar, Cambridge International School, Phagwara stood second . In Girls category in the same event , the First position was bagged by Cambridge International School For Girls, Jalandhar and Cambridge International School, Jalandhar stood second.
In Chess (Boys) the Overall position was bagged by Cambridge International School, Jalandhar whereas Cambridge International School, Nawanshahr was declared as the runner up. In (Girls) the Overall position was bagged by Cambridge International School For Girls whereas Cambridge International School, Jalandhar was declared as Runner up .
In the event of Kho Kho(Boys) Cambridge International School, Jalandhar and Cambridge International School, Nawanshahr attained a combined First position. In Kho Kho (Girls) the First position was bagged by Cambridge International School, Jalandhar ,the Second position was bagged by Cambridge International School For Girls.
The training and the efforts put in by Sports Departments of all the LWES schools were lauded by one and all. Participants expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their sports teachers for providing this opportunity which paved the way to their success.
On this occasion, Chairman Mr. Ajay Bhatia, Deputy Chairman Mr. Deepak Bhatia, Executive Director LWES Mr. J.K Kohli, CEO LWES Dr. Brijesh, Director LWES Mr. Nitin Kohli, Chief Education Officer LWES Ms. Deepa Dogra, Secretrait LWES Ms Geeta Mahajan, Ms. Meenu Huria, Ms Smita Verma, LWES Sports Co-ordinator Mr. A.S Sikand and Deputy Sports Co-ordinators LWES Mr.Anurag and Ms.Harpreet and Principal Ms. Kiranjoth Dhillon lauded the Sports Department for the painstaking efforts taken by them for mentoring and motivating the students to participate enthusiastically and for giving significant emphasis on extra-curricular activities, sports and physical fitness.
Over all it was a highly successful event .
