Golf tourney to mark Georgians’ centenary

Chandigarh, October 28, 2025: As part of the valedictory event of the centenary celebrations of Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Chail, a Georgians’ Golf tournament is being organised at the Chandigarh Golf Club on October 30.

Alumni of the all RMSs, which include those located at Ajmer, Bengaluru, Belgaum and Ajmer, shall be participating in the tournament. The RMSs come directly under the Ministry of Defence and primarily prepare cadets for serving the defence services.

A senior alumni, Kuldeep Sharma, who is a leading businessman and hotelier in Canada, said that it was for the first time that such a tournament was being organised. He said alumni from all the RMSs have been invited to participate and that about 100 of them have already registered for it.

Sharma said that the students and alumni of RMSs are called Georgians because the first of these schools was called King George’s Royal Indian Military School and it was started at Jalandhar in 1925. The name of the school was later changed to Rashtriya Military School.

Capt Juggie Brar, another senior alumni and entrepreneur from UAE, said it is proposed to have the Georgians Golf tournament every year to boost camaraderie among the Georgians.
Industrialist Hardeep Cheema added, my love for golf urged me to support this Georgians Golf tournament. Capt Jaswinder Ahluwalia, another alumni stated  that in School, we were encouraged to play troop games like hockey, football and basketball. We all picked up golf in the later years but now it has become a passion.

President of the Georgians Association (North), Col Rajan Kadian (retd), said the event was part of the valedictory events arming the culmination of the year long celebrations. These included a car and motorbike rally besides an ultra marathon. The Chief of Army Staff, Gen Upendra Dwivedi was the chief guest at the official centenary ceremony in the school premises earlier this month.
