Ludhiana, May 1, 2018: The Annual Convocation of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana was held today. Smt.Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister for Food processing industries was the Chief Guest. S.Gobind Singh Longowal, President, SGPC, S.Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Ex-Minster, Punjab & Trustee, S.Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Ex-Minister, Punjab & Trustee, Dr.Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, IKG Punjab Technical University, Dr.S.K Jain Director SLIET, Dr.Buta Singh, Dean, MRS Punjab Technical University, Er.Mohanbir Singh Addl.Director Technical Education Punjab, were the guests of honor. The trustees of Nankana Sahib Education Trust, academicians, and former principals graced the occasion. Around 700 students were conferred with B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA & Ph.D. degrees and 35 students were awarded with Gold and Silver medals.

In the welcome address, the senior trust member S.M.S Grewal mentioned about the legacy of NSET and GNDEC in imparting technical education for the inclusive growth of the society. The institution has produced high quality technocrats over the last 60 years and its alumni are excelling all over the globe.

In her convocation address, Smt.Harsimrat Kaur Badal exhorted the youth to follow ethical and moral values along with professional accomplishments. She called upon the graduates to adopt the path of entrepreneurship in line with Prime Minister’s vision of make in India. She motivated the students for taking up initiatives in the innovative engineering and technology projects and assured them all the support. She said that India has a huge youth population and the world was looking at India. Youth should stand up against social evils of dowry, female foeticide so that the world could become a better place to live in. To congratulate the young graduates she distributed chocolates amongst them. Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, IKG Punjab Technical University in his address said that GNDEC is a jewel in the University’s crown and the institute had been excelling in all spheres since its inception. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the college being alumnus.
S. Gobind Singh Longowal, President, Nankana Sahib Education Trust presided over the function and congratulated the young graduates and exhorted them to follow the righteous path as shown by our Gurus

Reading out the Annual Report, Dr. Sehijpal Singh, Principal of the college highlighted the academic, sports and other achievements of the college. He said that college had overall pass percentage of 90%. The college has been awarded by IKG Punjab Technical University for best placements. In the recent batch, while a significant number of students were placed in reputed companies, over 70 students from college cleared GATE/CAT/GRE exams and more than 40 students have got work visa in the developed countries due to NBA accreditation. The college has won the overall trophy for consecutively three years. Giving details of developmental activities, he informed that 150kWp grid connected Solar PV plant was made operational, many new equipments were added in the laboratories. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. K.S. Gill, Dean Academics.
