GIIS Nagpur Hosts Taluka Level School Kabaddi Tournament 2025

Nagpur, September 29, 2025: Global Indian International School (GIIS), Lava, Nagpur, successfully hosted the Taluka Level School Kabaddi Tournament 2025, bringing together over 300 students from more than 25 schools across the taluka for two days of spirited competition. Organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Sports & Youth Services, Maharashtra, in collaboration with the District Sports Council and the District Sports Officer’s Office, Nagpur, the tournament highlighted the growing enthusiasm for indigenous sports among today’s youth. The event was supervised locally by Umesh Chaure, Taluka District Sports Officer.
Teams competed in three age groups—Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19—for both boys and girls, following a league-cum-knockout format that ensured fair play and equal opportunity. The campus echoed with excitement as matches unfolded, showcasing remarkable skill, teamwork and discipline from all participants.
Speaking at the event, Nidhi Gupta, Principal, GIIS Nagpur, said, “It is an honour for our school to host a tournament that celebrates Kabaddi, a sport deeply rooted in our culture. Seeing students play with such passion and respect for the game reinforces the importance of preserving and promoting traditional sports. Events like these not only build physical strength but also nurture values of teamwork, strategy and resilience.”
Assistant Police Inspector Vijay Dumble, the chief guest, addressed the gathering and praised the efforts of the organisers. “Kabaddi reflects the spirit of our land and teaches discipline, coordination and mental agility. Watching these young players compete with such energy and sportsmanship is truly inspiring. I encourage students to continue embracing our traditional games with the same enthusiasm,” he said.
“This tournament is a great example of how collaboration between schools and sports authorities can create meaningful opportunities for young athletes. The energy and dedication of the players, combined with the careful planning by GIIS Nagpur, show how traditional sports like Kabaddi can thrive and inspire the next generation,” said Umesh Chaure, Taluka District Sports Officer, Nagpur.
The tournament concluded with a spirited felicitation ceremony for winners and runners-up. Bhonsala Military School, Nagpur swept the boys’ titles in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 categories. In the girls’ events, Sanjuba High School clinched the Under-14 and Under-17 titles, while Jawaharlal Nehru Vidyalaya secured the Under-19 crown.
