The Ghanta Awards (sometimes abbreviated as The Ghanta) is an award presented in recognition of the worst in Bollywood films. The only stand-up comedy and award show of its kind from India. The Ghanta Awards is a live show shaped by online voting by the audience.
The public can vote on 14 award categories representing the worst of Bollywood. The awards themselves are a large golden bell that is typically used for idol worship. Award Category - Worst (Film, director, Actor, Actress, Song, Debut, Supporting actress, WTF was that, Couple, Miscasting, controversial controversy etc.).
Artist Profiles:
Manan Desai-The brain behind The Comedy Factory. He gave up a career as a Radio Jockey after working for 7 years as a prime time jock in some of the leading private radio stations of Gujarat. All for the passion of bringing live comedy entertainment in Gujarat. As a performer, Manan loves to weave content that talks about the cultural nuances of India. He strongly believes that every aspect of our diverse culture has a lot of comedy to offer.
Neeti Palta- brings to the stand up comedy scene in India what it sorely lacks – a female perspective. She was voted as the best Stand Up Comic at the Oz Fest and was India’s first Stand Up to perform at Melbourne for the prestigious Melbourne Comedy Festival 2013. Neeti established one of Delhi’s oldest and most successful comedy outfits – Loony Goons. It’s a pioneer outfit that flies in the best comedians from across India to give comedy night a truly complete ‘Indian’ feel.
Radhika Vaz- One of the country’s most well recognized stand-up comedians with an international following (The Indian Wanda Sykes – The Huffington Post, NY). Considered one of the pioneers of the stand-up movement in India she has been featured in Vogue’s ‘The power of 50’ and is a frequent guest on NDTV.
Sanjay Rajoura- Born in New Delhi (India) and has lived in Jaipur, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, San Francisco and Singapore. Sanjay Rajoura had his first real attempt at stand up comedy in 2009 when he took the stage in an open mic event at a popular joint in Delhi post which there was no stopping. His first two big solo events ‘JatIn Mood’ was held at India Habitat Center, New Delhi, and both the shows were hugely successful. His work has been critically acclaimed to be unconventional, unique and fresh. His USP of narrating real-life stories in a funny satirical manner has been greatly appreciated and well received by the audience.
