Ludhiana, March 3, 2026: B.Sc. Fashion Design students from Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Ghumar Mandi visited the Swadeshi Mela at the PAU Ludhiana campus. 
The visit provided students with a vibrant exposure to India’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship. This mela showcased a wide variety of indigenous products, including traditional sarees, handwoven textiles, ethnic garments, intricate embroidery work, handcrafted accessories, and regional art forms from different parts of the country. Students observed the diversity of fabrics, weaving styles, dyeing techniques, and embroidery patterns that reflect India’s unique textile traditions. Students interacted with artisans and exhibitors to understand traditional production methods, raw materials used, and the cultural significance behind different designs and motifs. This visit was an enriching learning experience, enabling students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical exposure to traditional fashion and textile practices. It also inspired them to appreciate indigenous craftsmanship and explore innovative ways to incorporate traditional elements into modern fashion design.
Director GGNIMT Prof. Manjit Singh Chhabra emphasized  that  educational visits play an important role in broadening students’ perspectives and also their understanding of India’s cultural heritage. He emphasized that exposure to traditional crafts and indigenous textiles encourages creativity and helps students develop a deeper appreciation for sustainable and heritage-based fashion practices. He also appreciated the efforts of the Head Prof. Gurleen Kaur and  faculty members Prof. Maganpreet & Prof. Rishita for organizing this visit. Principal GGNIMT Dr. Harpreet Singh advised the students to actively learn from such experiences and understand the importance of preserving traditional art forms. He advised them to use this exposure to enhance their creativity and apply traditional knowledge in contemporary fashion design.
Prof. Gurleen Kaur, Head of the Fashion Design Department, shared that this visit provided students with valuable hands-on exposure to traditional textiles and craftsmanship. She also emphasized that this Mela enabled the students to both experience the manufacture and finishing of authentic handcrafted products and also interact with highly skilled artisans who were blending the traditional designs to create contemporary fashion items. Divya, a fourth semester B.Sc Fashion Design student, described the visit as highly inspiring and informative. She said the mela gave her a deeper understanding of traditional textiles, embroidery techniques, and the cultural richness of Indian craftsmanship.
