Four-Day Training Programme for Forest Department Officers Concludes

A four-day training programme on ‘Seed Processing and Seed Testing’, organized by the Department of Tree Improvement and Genetic Resources, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, for 34 Range Forest Officer trainees of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, concluded successfully today. The programme was conducted from January 19 to 22.

A four-day training programme on ‘Seed Processing and Seed Testing’, organized by the Department of Tree Improvement and Genetic Resources, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, for 34 Range Forest Officer trainees of the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, concluded successfully today. The programme was conducted from January 19 to 22.

The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. C.L. Thakur, Dean, College of Forestry. On the occasion, Dr. H.P. Sankhyan was present as the Guest of Honour. During the four days of intensive training, participants were imparted advanced technical knowledge on seed identification, purity analysis, moisture testing, germination testing and management of seed-borne diseases. Along with theoretical sessions, special emphasis was laid on practical training.

The trainees were also taken on exposure visits to the University’s Shilli Nursery, Bambusetum and various departments of the University to provide them with first-hand understanding of field-level activities.

At the valedictory session, the University Librarian Dr. D.R. Bhardwaj was present as the Chief Guest. He addressed the participants on bamboo and natural  forest regeneration and distributed certificates to all the trainees. The various sessions of the training programme were conducted by Dr. Anita, Dr. Shikha Thakur and Dr. Lalit Thakur.

The training programme is expected to enhance the technical competence of Forest Department officers and promote quality seed production in the forestry sector.
