Former CM Hooda targets BJP over debt, jobs; says Congress made Haryana a front-ranking state

Meham, September 19, 2026: Former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday accused the BJP government of pushing Haryana backwards on debt, unemployment, crime and corruption.
Addressing a Congress block-level conference in Meham, Hooda claimed that the Congress government between 2005 and 2014 had taken Haryana to the forefront in per-capita income, investment, employment, government jobs, farmers’ welfare and sports.
He claimed that the state’s debt had risen from around ₹70,000 crore in 2014 to ₹5.50 lakh crore now. He also alleged that no major new project, railway line or medical college had been established during this period. Government budget figures, however, put outstanding liabilities at an estimated 25.8% of GSDP in 2026-27.
Hooda alleged that farmers were struggling for remunerative crop prices and fertiliser, while youths were being offered low-paid temporary jobs through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam instead of regular government employment. He also linked concerns over law and order with investment and employment prospects.
He urged party workers to intensify their campaign against the BJP government.
State Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt, former minister Anand Singh Dangi and MLA Balaram Dangi were among those present. The Maham meeting was part of Congress’s block-level programmes being held from September 18 to 21.
