Former CM Hooda attacks BJP over jobs, debt; says Haryana ‘drowning’ in ₹5.53 lakh crore loans.

Rohtak, September 6, 2026: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday accused the BJP government of betraying sanitation workers and employees engaged through the Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam (HKRN), while pushing the state deeper into debt.

Addressing reporters at his residence, ‘Maturam Bhawan’, at D-Park, Hooda said the government was presenting “incorrect facts” in the Assembly on the issue of contractual employees. He claimed the Congress government had issued policies on June 16 and 18, 2014, under which contractual employees completing three years of service were to be regularised.

Hooda said the policies had withstood scrutiny in the High Court and Supreme Court and questioned why the BJP government was reluctant to formulate a policy to regularise employees after two years of service. He also cited the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, which, he said, had adopted a similar two-year regularisation policy.

‘BJP reneged on promise to HKRN Employees’

Hooda alleged that the BJP had promised during elections to retain Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam (HKRN) Employees until retirement but had backtracked after coming to power. He said the Chief Minister had made it clear in the Assembly that the Kaushal Nigam was only an alternative arrangement and its employees could be removed at any time.

He also accused the government of backtracking on regularising guest teachers and extending the Old Pension Scheme to permanent employees.

Government failing players, alleges Hooda

On the issue of sportspersons’ appointments, Hooda said medal-winning athletes had to fight for eight years in court to secure appointments to HCS and HPS posts under the Congress-era policy. He alleged the High Court even imposed a ₹50,000 fine on the government, calling it evidence of the BJP’s “anti-sportsperson” approach.

‘Haryana drowning in ₹5.53 lakh crore debt’

Former CM claimed Haryana’s debt had risen to ₹5.53 lakh crore and alleged that the government was taking fresh loans even to repay existing debt. Citing a Centre report, he said Haryana had slipped to 14th among 18 major states in terms of fiscal health.

He also criticised the BJP government over waterlogging, traffic snarls and poor sanitation in Gurugram, saying the problems worsen after every spell of rain.

On INLD leader Abhay Chautala’s statements, Hooda said he had already served him a notice and would issue a second notice if no reply was received.

He also opposed the abolition of the numberdar system, promising that a Congress government would restore it.
