Rohtak, October 21, 2026: The Sarbojanin Durga Puja celebrations at the Community Centre in Model Town concluded on Vijayadashami with traditional rituals and an emotional farewell to Goddess Durga.

Devotees offered prayers to Goddess Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi, and Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya, seeking peace and prosperity. The highlight was Sindoor Khela, during which married women dressed in white sarees with red borders applied vermilion to one another, praying for marital bliss and the well-being of their families. Sweets and betel leaves were offered to the goddess before the farewell rituals.

Amid the rhythmic beats of traditional dhak drums, conch shells and chants, devotees bid an emotional goodbye to the deities. The pandal echoed with “Asche Bochor Abar Hobe” (It will happen again next year), reflecting their hope of welcoming the goddess back next year.

Chief priest Prashanto Goswami said he had conducted the Durga Puja in Haryana for the first time, following traditional Bengali customs and rituals. Neeta Rai, who travelled from Kolkata to attend the celebrations, explained the significance of the Sindoor Khela tradition.

Chief organiser Somen Banik, patron Prof H.J. Ghosh Rai, MDU director of public relations Sunit Mukherjee, priest Shyamal Ganguly and Mumbai-based sound designer Subir Das were among those present.

The celebrations brought the community together, highlighting Bengal’s rich cultural traditions and promoting brotherhood and social harmony.
