FASC Hoshiarpur (Gangian) conducted Awareness Camp cum Demonstrations on Management of Fruit Fly in Vegetables and Guava Crop
An awareness camp cum demonstrations on the management of fruit fly in vegetables and guava crop was organized by PAU -Farm Advisory Service Centre, Hoshiarpur (Gangian) at villages Allar and Purochak on Monday.

Ludhiana, July 8, 2025: An awareness camp cum demonstrations on the management of fruit fly in vegetables and guava crop was organized by PAU -Farm Advisory Service Centre, Hoshiarpur (Gangian) at villages Allar and Purochak on Monday.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, District Extension Scientist (Entomology) discussed about the life cycle of fruit fly which consist different stages like, egg, maggot, pupa and adult stages. Then he discussed the significance of PAU fruit fly traps in the management of fruit flies. Later on, he demonstrated the working of these traps by showing the inside bait that contain pheromone (lure) which attracts the male flies. These traps have holes through which male flies entered and trapped inside the traps which prevent further mating that result in reduction of population. He also put emphasis on dumping the damaged fruit so, as to avoid further spread to healthy plants. Later, he demonstrated the right way to hang these traps in the guava orchard.
Dr Indira Devi, District Extension Scientist (fruits) discussed about plantation of different fruit plants like mango, guava, kinnow etc. in detail. She also advised the farmers to purchase fruit plants from registered nurseries only. She guided on selecting the right fruit varieties, optimal planting times, and planting distances to ensure quality fruit yield. She shared essential tips on pit preparation, initial care, and nutritional needs for fruit plants, ensuring the farmers were well-equipped to manage their new plantings. At the end, PAU fruit fly traps for management of fruit fly in rainy season vegetables and guava crop were provided to the farmers.
