FARMERS AND RURAL WOMEN GET TRAINING IN AGRICULTURE AND ALLIED ACTIVITIES

Ludhiana, November 2, 2017: During the monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club today, the agriculture experts equipped the farmers with the knowledge about seed treatment and insect-pest management inrabicrops, weed control inrabicrops, use of biofertlizers in crops and cultivation of low tunnel vegetables. Besides, rural women were apprised of preparation of utility and decorative articles from paddy straw and cultivation of winter season flowers, especially, gladiolus. A total of 378 farmers and 60 rural women participated in the camp.

Dr Thakar Singh, Head, Department of Agronomy; Dr Naveen Aggarwal, entomology expert; Dr Kulvir Singh, vegetable scientist; Dr K.K. Dhatt, floriculture expert; Dr Narinderjit Kaur, Professor, Farm Resource Management (FRM); Ms Nishi, fine arts expert from FRM, and Mr S.K. Siag were the resource persons and delivered lectures on their respective topics.

Dr T.S. Riar, Programme Coordinator, underlined the need for adopting cooperative farming. He also urged the farmers to transfer PAU gained knowledge to other farmers for their economic prosperity.

Dr Baldev Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Ludhiana, spoke on the role of agricultural development.

Dr Rupinder Kaur, Coordinator of women’s wing of the club, said many rural women have started their ventures and are contributing financially to their families after acquiring training from PAU.

Santokh Singh Aujla, a progressive farmer, shared his experience of net house cultivation of vegetable crops.

Mr Ravinder Bhalooria, visitors’ guide, welcomed the experts and the members of the club while Mr Manpreet Singh Grewal, President of the club, proposed the vote of thanks.
