Failure to Deliver Justice in Sacrilege Cases Is the Biggest Failure of the Mann Government: Balwinder Dhaliwal

Chandigarh, August 6, 2026: During the Monsoon Session, retired IAS officer and MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, who arrived at the Punjab Assembly carrying banners and placards in protest, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to ensure punishment for those responsible in the sacrilege cases. He said that the government's inability to secure convictions and provide justice to the victims in these cases is its biggest failure.
Dhaliwal alleged that instead of effectively pursuing the Behbal Kalan, Kotkapura, and Bargari sacrilege cases, the government had all of them transferred outside Punjab.
He stated that before coming to power, the government had promised to deliver swift justice in the sacrilege cases. However, despite four and a half years in office, neither have the accused been punished nor has the government clearly informed the public about the status of the investigations.
He demanded that the Punjab Government present a complete update on the progress of the investigations in the Assembly, ensure swift legal action against those responsible, and provide justice to the affected families without any further delay.
Dhaliwal further alleged that the Mann Government has completely failed to fulfill its electoral promises. He said that the continued delay in delivering justice in such sensitive sacrilege cases has weakened public confidence in both the government's commitment and the rule of law. He added that the government must clearly place the current status of the investigations before the Assembly and the people of Punjab.
He also alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party is anti-Sikh, claiming that its policies and functioning do not reflect respect for Sikh sentiments. According to him, the continued delay in the sacrilege cases and the government's silence have become a matter of concern for Punjab's social and religious harmony. He asserted that no individual should be considered above the law. Regardless of how influential a person may be, anyone found involved in such serious offences of sacrilege must face impartial and time-bound legal action.
