Faculty Development Programme on ‘Planning for the future of tourism and hospitality’ at GNA University

Jalandhar: Faculty of Hospitality (FOH) under the flagship of Human Resource Development Centre, GNA University organised a virtual FDP on the theme of ‘Planning for the future of Tourism and Hospitality’. The key objective behind organizing this FDP was to increase the footfall of reputed faculty, experts, and researchers to learn, share knowledge and skills in cutting edge areas, create avenues for possible collaborative research work etc. 

The two-day FDP was focused to guide faculty members to comprehend and get prepared for the situation that may be present in the coming days. This FDP brought in eminent speakers and experts from different areas of Tourism and Hospitality who shared their knowledge on various important aspects like Product development, Emerging trends, Culinary research, Sustainable development goals and more. These sessions helped participants to get familiar with situations and also get ideas of how others are coping with and preparing for the future.  

The inaugural of the FDP was done by Prof. (Dr.) Monika Hanspal (Dean academic affairs), GNA University. The opening remarks were given by Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Rattan (Vice Chancellor) GNA University. The introduction of the resource persons participated in the FDP was given by Chef Dhiraj Pathak. The sessions on the first and second day of FDP were moderated by Chef Manjinder Singh and Mr. Parveen Kumar respectively.  

The sessions that took place on the first day of FDP were product development and preparation, emerging hospitality trends and opportunities in culinary research. The sessions that took place on the last day of FDP were sustainable development goals of tourism, role of government and NGO in destination development and impact of technology in tourism. 

All the sessions was very informative and enjoyed by one and all, wherein participants’ questions were also taken and answered. In the end, Dr. Sandilyan Ramunujam, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Hospitality thanked all the speakers on behalf of GNA University. On this occasion, S. Gurdeep Singh Sihra, the Pro-Chancellor said, “Such FDPs are important for faculty to keep themselves updated with the changing role of tourism and hospitality industry and I am happy to witness the active participation.”
