Rohtak, September 10, 2025: The Faculty of Planning and Architecture, Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak, organized an expert lecture on “Energy Efficiency in Buildings” today. The session witnessed an engaging discourse on sustainable design strategies and advanced technologies in building performance.
The lecture was delivered by Atul Anand Jha, Sr. Researcher at the Built Environment Lab, IIT Roorkee. Drawing on his vast academic and research experience, Jha explained the need for energy-efficient buildings as a critical response to climate change, urbanization, and depleting resources. He emphasized strategies such as passive design, material innovation, and integration of renewable energy systems, and smart building technologies that can drastically reduce energy consumption.
Using relatable real-life examples, He simplified complex ideas for students, ensuring that technical aspects were easy to comprehend. He also shared case studies of innovative projects where design interventions have led to measurable energy savings, inspiring students to think of architecture not only as an art but also as a responsibility towards society and the environment.
Reflecting on the importance of the subject, Atul Anand Jha remarked, “The buildings we design today will shape the environmental legacy of tomorrow. Architects must think beyond aesthetics and functionality to embed sustainability at the very core of their practice. If we succeed in designing energy-efficient buildings, we succeed in designing a better future.”
The lecture was attended by around 60 undergraduate students from 3rd, 4th, and 5th year, along with faculty members. The interactive session allowed students to raise queries about integrating sustainable principles into their academic projects and professional practice.
HOD, Ar. Ajay Bahu Joshi said, “Energy efficiency is not merely a design choice but an ethical obligation for the architects of tomorrow. Lectures like these connect theory with practice and inspire our students to address real-world challenges through sustainable solutions.”
The event was part of the Faculty’s ongoing initiative to expose students to cutting-edge research and professional practices through expert lectures, workshops, and collaborations with premier institutes.
