ESIC Medical College & Hospital Marks World Breastfeeding Week with Awareness Campaigns and a Commitment to a Baby-Friendly Future
In observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, organized a week-long celebration focused on spreading awareness, dispelling myths, and promoting baby-friendly practices among the community. The initiative, held from August 1st to 7th, was a collaborative effort of the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Community Medicine, supported enthusiastically by the hospital administration.

Ludhiana, August 8, 2025: In observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, organized a week-long celebration focused on spreading awareness, dispelling myths, and promoting baby-friendly practices among the community. The initiative, held from August 1st to 7th, was a collaborative effort of the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Community Medicine, supported enthusiastically by the hospital administration.
INTERACTIVE TALKS and personalized counseling sessions were held throughout the hospital's Outpatient (OPD), Inpatient (IPD), Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC), and Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC). These sessions aimed to raise awareness, share knowledge, and support mothers in their journey of breastfeeding.
A dedicated PUBLIC FORUM was organized to provide a platform for open dialogue. Mothers and family members actively participated, posed questions, and received evidence-based answers. Several prevailing myths surrounding breastfeeding were addressed and corrected by healthcare experts.
To creatively involve healthcare personals, a POSTER AND SLOGAN COMPETITION was conducted for nursing students, doctors, and hospital staff. The entries reflected the theme of breastfeeding as a natural, essential, and empowering practice. Winners of the top three entries were felicitated for their impactful contributions.
Dr Inder Pawar, Dean of ESIC Medical College and Hospital, appreciated the successful interdepartmental collaboration and lauded the efforts of the organizing teams for prioritizing maternal and child health.
Dr Aparajita Sophia D’souza, Medical Superintendent, delivered a compelling talk on ‘Breastfeeding in the Modern Woman’s Life’, sensitizing all stakeholders on changing perceptions and sustained support.
Dr Shagun Walia, Specialist Paediatrics, conducted a hands-on session for the nursing staff, focusing on updated lactation techniques.
The Deputy Medical Superintendent acknowledged the collective efforts of the administrative, ministerial staff, doctors, nurses, and the participating mothers, recognizing their role in making the event a success.
The event concluded with a collective PLEDGE by the hospital administration and staff to actively promote breastfeeding and work towards making ESIC Hospital a certified Baby-Friendly Institution, aligning with national and WHO guidelines.
The celebrations successfully highlighted the unmatched health benefits of breastfeeding and reaffirmed the hospital’s deep commitment to the well-being of mothers and children.
