England’s Lead Designer taught Architectural Geometry to LPU BArch Students
England’s lead designer Vishu Bhooshan given online training of Architectural Geometry to LPU students.

Jalandhar: England’s Lead Designer Vishu Bhooshan interacted with students of architecture and design at Lovely Professional University (LPU) and skilled them in “Architectural Geometry”. The occasion was an exclusive webinar on "Learning from Architectural Geometry" for LPU Students only. He forwarded his years of expertise in the simplest possible manner to LPU students. Vishu is a Lead Designer at world-renowned ‘Zaha Hadid Architects’ as part of the Computation and Design Research (ZH CODE) group in London (UK). He guided students on various aspects of mathematical figures, particularly of geometry domain, applied in the best designs of the world.

Vishu is also a tutor and thesis advisor for Architectural Computation at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College of London. He has also taught at various institutes in UK, India, China and Brazil. During the Webinar, Vishu informed about design research, computational geometries, specific interest on structure and fabrication; digital form-finding, topology optimization, statistical learning and more.

LPU students came to know well how geometry is related to architecture. They grasped that architects use geometry to study and divide space as well as draft detailed building plans. Builders and engineers rely on geometric principles to create structures safely. Above all, they also imbibed that applying geometry in design is unavoidable; and, geometry, algebra, trigonometry- all play a crucial role in architectural design.

Worth mentioning the visiting expert Ar Vishu is attached, for many years, with the world-renowned architects’ group of the British Iraqi Woman architect Zaha Mohammad Hadid. She was considered as the "Queen of the Curve", who liberated architectural geometry by providing it with a whole new expressive identity. Her major works include the London Aquatics Centre for Olympics, the Broad Art Museum in the US, a Museum in Rome, Opera House in China and many more.

Participating LPU students shared that the webinar proved very useful to them. They have learnt a lot about radical architectural designs in the very early stage of their innovative architectural learning. In fact, LPU School of Architecture & Design is among Punjab’s best institutions and ranked among top 10 promising architecture institutes of India by Higher Education Review. It always endeavours to train its students as lateral thinkers on innovative lines in this era of smart cities, sustainable buildings, and contemporary interiors. Through this elite webinar, students noted how architects use mathematics; how geometry is good for, where it is used, and so many other pros and cons of geometry in architecture.
