Chandigarh, May 16, 2026: Empower Wheelchair Cricket Triangular Series 2026 kicked-off at Government Model Senior Secondary School- Sec26’s, ground today. Madhvi Kataria, IAS (Retd.), State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, UT Chandigarh, and Saurabh Joshi, Mayor, Chandigarh were the Chief Guests at the inaugural ceremony. The tournament is being played over May 16-17 between three teams - Chandigarh(Host), Madhya Pradesh(MP) and Uttar Pradesh(UP). The triangular series will see 3 matches and a final fixture being played.
“The tournament aims to celebrate courage, resilience, and sporting excellence while promoting inclusivity in sports. The series stands as a strong message that disability is never a limitation when passion and perseverance lead the way,” said Sharmita Bhinder, Founder of Empower NGO, for special children, which is organising the tourney in association with Wheelchair Sports Society, and the National Association for the Blind, Chandigarh.
On Day 1 two matches were held- the first match was played between Madhya Pardesh & Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to bowl. Madhya Pradesh made 105/9 in 15 overs. Praveen with 33 runs off 18 balls was the highest scorer for MP. Vivek Dwivedi made 21 runs off 13 balls. Vikram took 13/2 and Jaydev 19/2 for UP. In response Uttar Pradesh made 107/1 in just 7.4 overs, with Amit Bind scoring a fiery 77 runs off 34 balls with 16 boundaries. Rinku Shukla made a quick 15 off 15 balls. Uttar Pradesh won the match by 9 wickets. UP’s Amit Bind was declared Man of the Match.
The second match was played between UP and Chandigarh. UP batting first put up a mammoth score of 162/1 in the allotted 15 overs.   Jaydev Yadav made 63 off 32 balls with 14 boundaries. Amit Bind scored 57 off 32 balls with 10 boundaries and a six. For Chandigarh Salwinder Singh took UP team’s lone wicket. In reply Chandigarh was able to put up just 81/8 on the board. The highest scorer for Chandigarh was Satnam Singh who scored 22 runs off 21 balls with 4 boundaries. Krishna remained not out with 20 off 43 balls, including 3 boundaries. Jaydev Yadav took 2 wickets while Vikram Bind and Ashish Kumar took 1 wicket each for UP. UP won the match with a huge margin of 81 runs. UP's Jaydev Yadav was declared Man of the Match.
On May 17 a match will be played between Chandigarh and MP and the winner of this match will face UP in the final encounter. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 430 pm in the evening.
The tournament is providing a meaningful platform for wheelchair cricketers to showcase their determination, passion, and talent.
