Electoral Awareness Program to promote awareness and discussion on electoral literacy and awareness of election process
The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised Electoral Awareness Program to promote awareness and discussion on electoral literacy and awareness of the election process. The department Electoral literacy club also conducted a survey identifying the eligible voters of the Chandigarh. The club after analysing the list of eligible voters ensured that the students who are not registered in the voter list yet get themselves registered.
Chandigarh, October 30, 2025: The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised Electoral Awareness Program to promote awareness and discussion on electoral literacy and awareness of the election process. The department Electoral literacy club also conducted a survey identifying the eligible voters of the Chandigarh. The club after analysing the list of eligible voters ensured that the students who are not registered in the voter list yet get themselves registered.
Professor Rupak Chakravarty, Chairperson of the Department in his enlightening address emphasised the relevance of electoral literacy in sustaining the democratic framework of the nation. He elaborated on the role of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in ensuring free and fair elections and discussed the transparency and accountability mechanisms adopted by the Election Commission of India. He also highlighted how every vote holds the power to shape the future of the nation and urged the students to exercise their right to vote with responsibility and awareness.
The session included interactive discussions and demonstrations related to the functioning of EVMs, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), and the entire electoral process, making it highly informative and engaging for the attendees. The department also showcased awareness and electoral literacy films provided by the Election Commission of India to the department.
