Drug Abuse Awareness Session
The Department of Library and Information Science, Arts Block-IV, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a Drug Abuse Awareness Session in Lecture Hall-I. The session was held under the theme “Burn the Drugs, Not Your Future.”

Chandigarh, September 12, 2025: The Department of Library and Information Science, Arts Block-IV, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a Drug Abuse Awareness Session in Lecture Hall-I. The session was held under the theme “Burn the Drugs, Not Your Future.”
Shiwani Sharma, Research Scholar of the Department, who formally introduced the event. Prof. Rupak Chakravarty, Chairperson, shared valuable insights into the causes, consequences, and preventive measures related to substance abuse. His talk emphasized the importance of awareness, self-control, and community support in combating the growing menace of drugs. He also highlighted the psychological, social, and physical consequences of substance addiction and elaborated on preventive strategies that students and society can adopt to curb this menace. He also administered an oath against drug abuse, which was taken collectively by all students, office staff and faculty members.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of how drug abuse not only affects individuals but also undermines families, communities, and society at large.The awareness program fulfilled its objective of sensitizing students about the harmful effects of drugs and motivating them to spread the message of prevention. The session concluded with a collective commitment to stand against drug abuse and to promote a drug-free campus and society.
At the end, Shubham Mishra, Research Scholar of the Department gave the vote of thanks to the students and faculty members of the department for active participation.
