Ghaziabad: One of the biggest global issues that has maligned the human race off late has been their carelessness attitude towards mother nature and the planet. In a bid to sensitize the students towards the looming environmental threats and their disastrous consequences DPS Indirapuram celebrated Earth Day in a Special Assembly on 22nd April, 2016. The assembly was a tribute to the abundant gifts showered upon mankind by nature and a solemn reminder to all to honour and respect these.
In the run of events, the School English Choir presented the soul-stirring ‘Earth Song’. A student of Class IX also recited a short poem, poignantly reflecting upon the merciless exploitation of nature by mankind. A heart rending film, ‘Once there was a purple butterfly …’ showcasing the gradual decline of this exotic species because of illegal trading and other activities of humans moved one and all present in the assembly. Further in the celebrations, a thought provoking dance drama based on the significance of the five elements of earth was presented by the students. The ‘Earth Day Pledge’ was also administered to the students by the principal. The students were also urged to treasure the boundless gifts of nature and protect and preserve them for posterity.
Mrs. Meeta Rai, Principal, DPS Indirapuram said, “Children should know that the resources they are using are not inherited from their forefathers but is being borrowed from their future generations. This way they will understand the importance of preserving the nature and helping maintain a better planet. When the era of development began, we started exploiting the resources to the best of our capability and now that we have over burdened the planet, it’s high time that we start working towards stabilizing the environment.”
