Doaba Poetry Fest held

Jalandhar, November 2, 2017: PG department of English of Doaba College Jalandhar organized Doaba Poetry Fest- English Poetry workshop-cum-recitation. Sh.Chander Mohan-President Arya Shiksha Mandal and College Managing Committee graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Dr.Tejinder Kaur-former Head Department of English, Punjabi University Patiala as Keynote Speaker and Dr Taseer Gujral-renowned poetess as Resource Person. The dignitaries were accorded a hearty welcome by Principal Dr.Naresh Kumar Dhiman, Head Prof.Rupinder Singh Kular, faculty and 80 students. 16 students from 8 colleges of 4 universities participated in the event.
Chief Guest Sh.Chander Mohan congratulated the department for organizing such a meaningful workshop and said that most of the poets feel comfortable to write their experiences and imaginative creation in their mother tongue. Dr.Tejinder Kaur delivered her keynote address on Relevance of Poetry in Modern Times and said that the main motive of poetry is to provide Joy, delight, solace and self revelation to the reader and creator. It provides aesthetic and moral ability to shape human sensibility that is by it is best suited for the training of mind.
Dr.Taseer Gujral speaking on her topic How to Read a Poem said that a poem has to be read and re read to understand its multi-layered meanings. Team of Radha and Mansi of HMV stood first, Anmolpreet and Sonam of DAV College Jalandhar were declared first runner-up, Jaskiranjeet and Anmoljit of DAV University were declared second runners up, Radha Chatrath of HMV was declared the best poet. Sh. Chander mohan and Prof. Rupinder Singh Kular felicitating the vicorious students.
