Rohtak, June 16, 2026: A short film and documentaries produced by the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC-SUPVA), Rohtak, have been selected for special screening at the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). The screenings will take place in Mumbai on June 17. The selection committee chose one short film and two documentaries from SUPVA; these were created by students currently studying at the university, with SUPVA serving as the producer.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya stated that the short film ‘Jangli Rani’ and the documentaries ‘Taalmel’ and ‘Rohtak Mera Shehar’ were selected for screening at MIFF. They were produced by students from the Film and Television faculty's 2022 and 2023 batches. The students themselves handled responsibilities ranging from acting, music, and costume design to direction. The Vice Chancellor remarked that it is a matter of pride and joy for the SUPVA family that the university's films have reached an international film festival.

The documentary ‘Rohtak Mera Shehar’ depicts the heartwarming journey of three students who leave their hometown in pursuit of higher education. As they navigate the unfamiliar streets of a new city, they find themselves caught between longing and self-discovery. Through moments of struggle, friendship, and self-realization, their search for "home" transforms from a physical location into an emotional state. It was directed by Vinayak Sharma (2023 Direction batch). The crew includes audiographer Gautam Beniwal, editor Rajat, and cinematographer Vamsi.

Meanwhile, the documentary ‘Taalmel’ focuses on the story of adolescent boys who earn a living by playing the ‘Dafli’ to support themselves and their families. Their musical journey brings them into contact with hundreds of strangers. While music serves as a means for them to survive and express their emotions, they simultaneously face constant social neglect and harsh realities far beyond their years. The film is directed by Anushka Gupta (2023 Direction batch), with music composed by Shankar and Veer. The crew includes cinematographer Prateek Tiwari, sound designer Karun Arora, and editor Dinesh Kumar.

Additionally, the short film ‘Jangli Rani’ exposes the exploitation and inhumanity lurking behind the glitz and glamour of cinema. Holding a mirror to society, the film illustrates how humanity loses when sensitivities are crushed in the name of art. It is directed by Navya Hayran (2022 Direction batch). The team comprises cinematographer Kartik Pandit, sound designer Ravi, production designer Rishabh Arora, editor Karan Bhardwaj, art director Simran Sangwan, and costume designer Riya. Hansha and Mohammad Nuruddin Hasan feature in the cast.
