Chandigarh, October 16, 2025: Dean International Students, Panjab University, in collaboration with World Organization of Students and Youth (WOSY) and the International Hostel organised a vibrant Diwali celebration at the PU International Hostel. 

Large number of international students and university dignitaries celebrated the Festival of Lights with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit on the occasion. The international students enthusiastically engaged in group photography and enjoyed the Diwali festivities with great joy and togetherness.

President of UT Cricket Association (UTCA), Sanjay Tandon,  graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, which was attended among others by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig; Dean University Instructions Prof. Yojna Rawat; Dean Student Welfare (Women) Prof. Namita Gupta; Chief Vigilance Officer Prof. Simrit Kahlon; Dean International Students Prof. Kewal Krishan; Warden, International Hostel Dr. Ravinder Kaur; PUCSC President Gaurav Veer Singh Sohal; and National Secretary, ABVP Aditya Takiyar.

The event commenced with a traditional Pooja ceremony, in which dignitaries and international students participated together, embracing the cultural essence of Diwali. The celebrations continued with a lively showcase of cultural performances by international students, including a solo religious dance and the energetic Punjabi Bhangra, highlighting the diversity and enthusiasm of the student community.

In his address, Sanjay Tandon spoke about the significance of Diwali, emphasising the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. He also applauded the impressive cultural performances by the international students.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig, extended Diwali wishes to all and appreciated the efforts of international students in embracing and showcasing Indian culture. She commended the initiative for fostering a spirit of inclusivity and cultural exchange at the university.

Prof. Kewal Krishan who led the initiative, shared insights into the importance and traditions of Diwali, helping international students understand the cultural values associated with the festival. He expressed his joy at seeing students from diverse backgrounds actively participating in the celebrations.

Gaurav Veer Singh Sohal, PUCSC President, thanked the students for their enthusiastic participation and highlighted the message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, the world is one family, emphasising that such celebrations strengthen the bonds of unity, friendship, and mutual respect among students from across the globe.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ravinder Kaur, followed by the bursting of crackers, which filled the evening with excitement and color.
