Chandigarh, September 24, 2025: The Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a thought-provoking discussion on the book “COVID-19 and Education in India: Impact on Access, Inclusion and Learning”, published by Routledge and edited by Prof. Satvinderpal Kaur, Chairperson,  Department of Education, PU and Dr. Pradeep Kumar, JNU, New Delhi.

Renowned educationist Prof. Krishna Kumar, Padma Shri awardee, Former Director, NCERT, and Honorary Professor, Department of Education, Panjab University, chaired the session.
The distinguished panel of speakers included:
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala
Dr. Jatinder Singh, Department of Economics, CRRID, Chandigarh
Dr. Ambuj Sharma, Department of Philosophy, PGGCG, Chandigarh

The speakers highlighted how the pandemic widened socio-economic gaps, disproportionately affecting marginalised communities. The book brings together diverse perspectives on the multifaceted impact of COVID-19 on India’s education system, with a focus on access, inclusion, and the long-term implications for policy and practice. It also critiques the rise of EdTech as a tragedy that deepened inequalities, exposing the adverse effects of neoliberal approaches to education.

The event was well attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students, who actively participated in the interactive session.
