Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announces pay hike for vocational teachers

New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) The Delhi government has approved a substantial increase in the salaries of vocational teachers and those working under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced after Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.

The decision also covers teachers engaged at Special Training Centres, where children who have dropped out or never attended school are brought back into the education system.

Sharing details, the Chief Minister said around 1,131 vocational teachers in Delhi, who provide skill-based training across various disciplines, will now receive Rs 38,100 per month, up from the earlier Rs 20,000-Rs 23,000 range.

Similarly, salaries of teachers working at 784 centres under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan have been raised from Rs 21,000 to Rs 35,420 per month. These centres focus on educating out-of-school children and preparing them to re-enter mainstream schooling, she said.

Chief Minister Gupta said the revised pay now brings Samagra Shiksha teachers at par with primary and upper primary teachers.

“This is not just a financial decision, but a recognition of the dedication and hard work of teachers who operate in challenging conditions to bring children into the fold of education,” she said.

She added that the hike is expected to strengthen teachers’ financial security while also boosting morale. “Motivated and satisfied teachers are key to delivering quality education,” she noted.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said the goal is to ensure that no child in Delhi is left out of the education system.

“Special Training Centres serve as a lifeline for children who have never been to school or have dropped out. Bringing them back into the mainstream remains a top priority, and teachers play the most crucial role in this effort,” she said.

The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the quality of these centres through regular monitoring, parental counselling, and better coordination across departments.

“Our aim is not just to enrol children in schools, but to inspire them to learn and secure their future,” she added.

The Delhi government, she said, remains committed to continuous reforms and innovation in education, with the salary hike marking another step in that direction.
