Jalandhar/Kapurthala April 27, 2018: A delegation from Australian Institute of Business & Technology, Australia (AIBT) comprising of Mr.Michael Munstock, Senior Business Development Manager & Mr.Bullesh, Senior Account Lead (South Asia) were visited I K Gujral Punjab Technical University to explore the possibility to start a unique Post Graduate Diploma in Drone Technology in collaboration with IKGPTU. Drone Technology has wide spread application in fields like defence, disaster management, weather forecast, agriculture, shipping, geographic mapping, entertainment etc.

As per the proposal this PG level course may initially focus on engineering students who wants to pursue their career in Drone Technology. On successful implementation of first stage, training may be imparted to students at under graduate level also.

Mr.Michael Munstock from AIBT, Asutralia explaining the details of this novel initiative informed that a Centre of Excellence in Drone Technology may be established at IKGPTU where all technical know-how shall be provided by AIBT. A special team of experts in Drone Technology shall come to IKGPTU to train the trainers. At first stage training shall be provided to selected group of faculty of University & its affiliated Colleges. Students shall be imparted training on different stages of development of a drone. The course shall comprise of classroom as well as online lectures & hands-on practical training in the proposed Centre of Excellence.

Dr.NP Singh (Dean-Planning & External Programmes) informed that among many other fields Drone Technology can be very useful for agriculture sector of the State where it can be used for spray & other activities. We are planning to start such a course which shall train the students not only in operating a pre-designed drone but shall also provide training on the technology involved in manufacturing. The initiative shall promote indigenous production of Drones as well as shall promote entrepreneurial skills among youth of Punjab. Under this programme students shall be sent for practical training to Singapore & Thailand also. “University is contemplating upon the proposal to enter into a formal agreement with the Australian Institute for bringing Drone Technology in State”, he further added.
