DC REVIEWS FLOOD PREPAREDNESS IN BORDER VILLAGES AS SATLUJ WATER LEVEL RISES

Ferozepur, August 6, 2025: With heavy rainfall in Himachal leading to a rise in the Sutlej River, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma today visited flood-prone villages Ruknewala and Gatta Badshah in Makhu block to assess the situation and review the embankments along with other senior officials.
DC said that all necessary preparations are in place to deal with any flood-like situation and to ensure the safety of lives and property. Recalling the critical situation faced during the 2023 floods in the same villages, she said that advance action is being taken this year to prevent any mishap.
She added that while the water level in both the Sutlej and Beas rivers has risen due to heavy rainfall in the hills, the situation remains under control for now. “However, if the level increases further, the district administration is fully prepared to respond effectively”, she added.
During her visit, she interacted with villagers at Ruknewala village and heard their concerns. She directed the concerned departments to strengthen the embankments using sandbags and machinery, and urged villagers to cooperate with the administration in safeguarding the area.
The DC further said that flood control rooms have already been set up at both district and sub-division levels, and emergency shelters have been identified. “Arrangements such as boats, life jackets, flood lights, and searchlights have been completed in advance after meetings with officials from all relevant departments.”, she further added.
Officials from various departments were present during the inspection.
