Bathinda, January 17, 2026: The Department of Microbiology, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, successfully organized a webinar titled “Informatics-based Healthcare in the Era of the Fifth Paradigm” on 16 January 2026. The event was conducted under the visionary patronage of Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Gajendra P. S. Raghava, Professor and Head, Department of Computational Biology, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi. In his insightful talk, Prof. Raghava elaborated on the concept of the fifth paradigm of science, where data-driven and computational methodologies complement experimental biology, particularly in the context of modern healthcare.

The lecture was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session moderated by Dr. Somesh Baranwal, Head, Department of Microbiology, CUPB, which encouraged active participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students.

The program commenced with a welcome address and introduction of the invited speaker by Prof. R. Wusirika, Dean (In-charge Academic), CUPB. In his address, Prof. Wusirika highlighted the distinguished academic career of the speaker, elaborating on Prof. Gajendra P. S. Raghava’s contributions to the field of computational biology, his extensive research experience, major scientific achievements, and his role in developing widely used bioinformatics resources. He also emphasized the national and international recognition earned by Prof. Raghava through his scholarly work. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Monisha Dhiman, IQAC Director and Professor, Department of Microbiology. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and was appreciated for its academic relevance and interdisciplinary perspective.
