AICTE–ATAL Sponsored FDP on Emerging Trends in Health Care & Med-Tech Begins at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University Amritsar Campus
Jalandhar/Amritsar/Kapurthala, December 17, 2025: I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Amritsar Campus, successfully inaugurated the AICTE–ATAL Sponsored Six-Day Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Emerging Trends in Health Care & Med-Tech: Innovations for a Better Future”. This FDP will continue till 20th December 2025.The inaugural session was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Susheel Mittal, who emphasized the importance of continuous learning, interdisciplinary research, and adoption of emerging technologies to address modern healthcare challenges. He appreciated the university’s initiative in organizing such a timely and relevant FDP and encouraged participants to actively engage for maximum academic and societal benefit. He further appreciated the proactive academic initiatives of IKGPTU Amritsar Campus.
The successful organization of the FDP has been made possible through the continued encouragement and guidance of Dr. Ashish Arora, Director, and the valuable administrative support of Sh. Saurabh Sharma, Deputy Registrar. The programme is being coordinated by Dr. Vipul Sharma (Coordinator) and Dr. Prabhkiran Kaur (Co-Coordinator), with participation of 253 faculty members and researchers from various states across India. The FDP aims to bridge the gap between healthcare education, research, and rapidly evolving medical technologies.
The first technical session was delivered by Dr. Deepika Koundal, Senior Researcher from the University of Eastern Finland, Finland, who discussed the role of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), digital health, and predictive analytics in transforming healthcare from reactive to predictive, preventive, and personalized care. She highlighted ethical AI use, data privacy, interoperability, and human-centric digital healthcare systems.
The second session was conducted by Angadbir Singh Sabharwal, Senior Manufacturing Engineer at GT Medical Technologies, USA, who presented insights on brachytherapy and GammaTile technology for brain tumour treatment. He explained how GammaTile, a biodegradable collagen tile embedded with radioactive seeds, enables targeted radiation therapy with reduced side effects and improved patient outcomes compared to conventional chemotherapy and external radiation.
Participants actively interacted with the experts during question-and-answer sessions, reflecting strong interest in healthcare innovation and Med-Tech advancements.
The FDP will continue over the next five days, featuring eminent experts from India and abroad covering topics such as brain–machine interfaces, medical imaging using AI, robotics, medical device innovation, smart healthcare solutions, and 3D printing in medicine, concluding with an online assessment and valedictory session.
