Prevent Injuries, Protect Talent: UHSR to Host ‘Sports MedCon 2026’ on August 30

Rohtak, August 25, 2026: PGIMS, Rohtak’s Department of Sports Medicine will organise ‘Sports MedCon 2026’, a national conference on August 30 to mark National Sports Day, with a focus on the “Prevention and Treatment of Sports Injuries”.

The conference aims to equip coaches with practical skills to provide early, effective injury management on the field, helping prevent minor injuries from developing into serious conditions and enabling athletes to return to sport sooner, said Dr Rajesh Rohilla, Head of the Department of Sports Medicine and Sports Injury Centre.

Dr Rohilla said injuries just before major events such as the Olympics or Asian Games can derail years of hard work. “The focus is to ensure that coaches can respond correctly at the field level and help athletes get timely care,” he said.

Organised in collaboration with Haryana Sports University, Rai, Sonipat, and the Limb Reconstruction Society, Rohtak, the conference will feature a practical workshop on sports taping by former BCCI physiotherapist Dr Vaibhav Daga. A dedicated expert session will also focus on doping and anti-doping regulations.

The department has launched a statewide outreach campaign to ensure participation of athletes, coaches and support staff. A team comprising PGIDS Public Health Department Head Dr Manjunath, PRO Dr Umesh Yadav and sports psychologist Dr Mandeep met Haryana Sports University Vice-Chancellor Ashok Kumar and urged the university to send coaches, athletes and support staff. SAI Rohtak Centre and Pratap Sports School, Kharkhoda, have also been invited.

The Sports Department has directed all Deputy Directors and District Sports Officers to ensure participation of coaches.

UHSR Vice-Chancellor Dr H.K. Aggarwal said Haryana’s sports policy has helped establish the state as the country’s sports capital, and providing athletes with world-class medical support is the next crucial step.

“PGIMS is not only committed to treating injuries but also to protecting the state’s sporting talent from being sidelined by injuries,” he said, adding that the conference would help bridge the gap between medical science and grassroots coaching.
