Congress to Raise Bank Scams, Crime, Gurugram Waterlogging in Assembly Session

Rohtak/Chandigarh, August 26, 2026: Congress MLAs will raise a host of issues, including alleged bank scams, deteriorating law and order, unemployment, waterlogging and employee grievances, during the Haryana Assembly’s monsoon session beginning Thursday.

The Congress Legislature Party, chaired by former chief minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, met here on Wednesday to finalise its strategy for the session.

The party decided to move Adjournment Motions on alleged irregularities involving IDFC Bank, AU Small Finance Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, the Panchkula Municipal Committee and other issues. Calling Attention Motions will also be moved to seek government responses on alleged betrayal of promises made to youth employed through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam, the deteriorating law-and-order situation and rising organised crime.

Hooda said the Congress would seek discussions on several public-interest issues, including the agitation by sanitation workers and recurring waterlogging in Gurugram.

Other issues lined up by the party include the burden of inflation through increased property taxes and collector-rate-based taxation, rain-induced waterlogging in urban and rural areas, compensation for farmers, electricity privatisation, smart meters, and the demands of guest teachers, sanitation workers and other employees.

Taking aim at the BJP government over law and order, Former CM Hooda cited recent incidents of open firing in Dadri and a dacoity in Kurukshetra, alleging that criminals no longer fear the law.

“Open incidents of looting, dacoity, extortion, murder and firing have become routine in Haryana,” he said, alleging that the government had failed in its primary responsibility of protecting citizens and their property.

Hooda also referred to the Centre’s Social Progress Index, claiming that it has ranked Haryana as the country’s most unsafe state. He said the Congress would seek answers from the government on the issue during the session.

On the demand for regularisation of guest teachers, Hooda said a court verdict had favoured them and supported the policy adopted during the previous Congress government. He urged the BJP government to immediately regularise the teachers and extend them the benefits available to permanent employees.

The Leader of Opposition alleged that instead of implementing the court’s decision, the government was ignoring the concerns of guest teachers.
