Nilokheri, October 14, 2026: Forcing farmers to purchase additional products along with fertilisers is illegal, experts said during an online programme organised by Radio Gramoday 90.4 FM at the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), Nilokheri.
The programme, ‘Ram Ram Haryana’, focused on preventing the forced tagging of other products with fertilisers and educating farmers about their rights.
HIRD director Dr Virender Singh Chauhan said farmers must be aware of their rights while purchasing fertilisers and other agricultural inputs. They should be able to buy products according to their needs without facing undue pressure, he said, stressing the need for greater awareness and timely redressal of complaints.
Agriculture development officer Shyam Singh from the Agriculture Department briefed farmers on wheat sowing, mustard cultivation and preparations for the upcoming crop season. He advised farmers to seek complete information while purchasing agricultural inputs and approach the concerned department if they faced difficulties.
Gurvinder Singh, senior consultant at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Hyderabad, also highlighted the need to educate farmers about fertiliser-tagging practices and the rules governing such sales.
The programme featured phone-in interactions, with experts answering listeners’ queries and offering advice on agricultural issues. Participants also discussed farmers’ complaints and possible solutions.
The initiative aims to provide reliable agricultural information to rural communities and help farmers resolve problems through direct interaction with experts.
