Concept-driven workshop titled “Weaving Tales”

Chandigarh, February 23, 2026: The Department of University Institute of Fashion and Lifestyle Technology (UIFT), Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a three-day concept-driven workshop titled “Weaving Tales” from 19th to 21st February 2026.

The workshop was organised under the guidance of Prof. Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson, UIFT. The Chief Patron of the workshop was Prof. Renu Vig, Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University.

The workshop was conducted by renowned textile and fashion expert Amit Gigoo, with over 20 years of excellence in design, styling, and academics, who served as the resource person for the programme. With his in-depth knowledge and practical expertise, he introduced students to the fundamental principles of weaving, blending theoretical understanding with hands-on technical application.

During the workshop, students were trained in the basics of weaving and the construction of weave graphs, including Plain Weave, Satin Weave, Herringbone, and Twill Weave. The sessions also focused on the technical aspects of loom operations, including the setting of warp yarns (ends) and weft yarns (picks), understanding lifting orders of looms, and the systematic process of setting warp and weft yarns on the loom.

The workshop provided students with practical exposure to loom handling and enhanced their understanding of fabric construction, weave structures, and textile engineering fundamentals. Students actively engaged in drafting weave designs and translating them into woven samples, thereby strengthening their conceptual clarity and technical skills.

The workshop was coordinated by Akanksha Garg (SRF) and Deepa (Guest Faculty), whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth execution and academic success of the programme.

“Weaving Tales” proved to be an enriching academic initiative, promoting innovation, craftsmanship, and a deeper appreciation of traditional weaving techniques among budding fashion and textile professionals.
