Ludhiana, January 10, 2024: CII Ludhiana Zone Organised Workshop On Deciphering the Plastic EPR Guidelines for their members in collaboration with Surya Enviro & Chemicals, at Avon Cycles Limited premises today wherein more than 35 CII members attended the same. 

In the opening remarks, Rishi Pahwa, Chairman, CII, Ludhiana Zone and JMD Avon Cycles Limited shared that in the dynamic landscape of waste management, a paradigm shift is taking place through the concept of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) as an environmental policy (CPCB) approach which places the responsibility for the entire lifecycle of a product on its producer. This encompasses not only the manufacturing phase, but also post-consumer stages, including proper disposal, recycling, and reducing the environmental impact, Mr. Pahwa added.

Ashok Kumar Sharma, CEO, Shivalik Waste Management Limited expert said that that Wate Management Compliances including EPR compliance signifies a transformative shift towards sustainable business practices and In order to streamline implementation process of EPR, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, in its fourth Amendment to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, dated February 16, 2022, notified ‘Guidelines on Extended Producer Responsibility for Plastic Packaging’ in the Schedule II of the Rules. 

Gautam Sharma, Founder, Surya Enviro & Chemicals speaker for the session shared that portal has been developed to register PIBOs who are operating in more than two States with CPCB and those operating in one or two States/UTs shall be registered with the concerned State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs). PWPs shall also have to register with the concerned SPCB/PCC in accordance with the provisions of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 on this centralized portal developed by CPCB.
